Colorado AI Act Takes Effect June 30 — Regulating High-Risk AI in Employment Housing Healthcare and Education

The Colorado AI Act takes effect on June 30, establishing rules for high-risk artificial intelligence used in areas such as employment, housing, healthcare and education.

The landmark regulation focuses on consequential algorithmic decisions, setting requirements intended to address risks in systems that significantly affect people’s lives.

A May 2026 amendment shifted most of the law’s requirements to January 2027, adjusting the timeline for compliance.

The measure is among the most closely watched state-level AI laws in the United States as regulators grapple with governing the technology.
