India-Nordic Summit Welcomes India’s Successful Hosting of AI Impact Summit in New Delhi in February 2026

Leaders at the third India-Nordic Summit in Oslo welcomed India’s successful hosting of the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi in February 2026, according to a joint statement released Monday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined counterparts from Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Sweden for the gathering hosted by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store.

The communique emphasized inclusive, transparent and democratic artificial intelligence governance aligned with shared values. Leaders underscored the transformative power of digitalization and AI while calling for human-centric applications and open-source solutions where appropriate.

They committed to advancing global discussions on AI governance that is fair, equitable and rights-based, and highlighted the importance of including private sector entrepreneurs in collaborative initiatives. The statement noted growing cooperation in research, education and innovation between India and Nordic countries.

The summit elevated the India-Nordic relationship to a trusted Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership, building on earlier meetings in Copenhagen in 2022 and Stockholm in 2018. Leaders also discussed trade, climate action, maritime security, space cooperation and defense industrial collaboration.

On AI infrastructure, the leaders stressed democratized access to sustainable, energy-efficient and trusted computing resources while addressing risks and building trust and safety. They encouraged strengthened exchanges among startups and incubators to drive innovation across both regions.

The joint statement placed democratic governance of emerging technology at the center of the partnership, reflecting concerns about concentration of AI capabilities and data access. The fourth India-Nordic Summit will be hosted by Finland, according to the leaders’ decision. The Oslo summit also addressed maritime security, Arctic cooperation and counter-terrorism in a wide-ranging joint statement. Nordic prime ministers reiterated support for India’s bid for permanent membership in a reformed UN Security Council. Leaders condemned terrorism in all forms, including cross-border terrorism, and referenced recent attacks in India noted in the communique. They expressed concern over conflicts in Europe and West Asia while welcoming an April ceasefire in the Middle East. The fourth India-Nordic Summit will be hosted by Finland, continuing a rhythm of high-level meetings begun in Stockholm in 2018. Business forums on the summit margins paired shipowners, technology firms and clean-energy developers from both regions.
