IISc Bengaluru develops new four-state memory technology

The Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru developed a new four-state memory technology promising faster, more energy-efficient computing.

Conventional memory stores data in binary states; additional states increase density and speed potential. IISc researchers published findings after laboratory validation of the novel architecture.

Energy efficiency matters for data centers and mobile devices facing thermal and battery constraints. Commercialization would require semiconductor industry partnerships for fabrication at scale.

India’s research institutions have intensified hardware innovation efforts alongside software and services strengths.
