DRDO and Quality Council of India launch SAMAR 2.0 defense manufacturing benchmark

The Defence Research and Development Organisation in collaboration with the Quality Council of India formally unveiled the SAMAR 2.0 quality certification benchmark at a defense industry conference on Thursday. The second-generation System for Advanced Manufacturing Assessment and Rating is engineered to rigorously audit and certify private domestic defense manufacturers across key engineering and metallurgical competencies.

The updated evaluation framework establishes stringent compliance benchmarks spanning advanced materials testing, automated cyber-secure machining, aerospace-grade tolerance verification, and supply chain traceability. Under the program, qualified aerospace MSMEs and defense subcontractors will undergo comprehensive tier-level maturity audits to certify their capability to supply components directly for mission-critical missile, radar, and naval platforms.

Defense ministry officials underscored that SAMAR 2.0 will streamline vendor onboarding for global aerospace primes while certifying that indigenous equipment meets rigorous NATO-grade and international military standards. The defense establishment aims to certify more than one thousand indigenous suppliers under the new quality matrix over the next twenty-four months.
