IndiGo announces fuel surcharge hike of up to ₹350 on domestic and international flights

India’s leading commercial carrier IndiGo announced an immediate upward revision in passenger fuel surcharges, introducing fare hikes ranging from 150 to 350 rupees per flight ticket across its domestic and regional international route network. The airline cited relentless escalations in aviation turbine fuel tariffs and volatile international crude benchmarks as the primary drivers necessitating the tariff adjustment.

Aviation market analysts noted that fuel expenses constitute between thirty-five and forty-five percent of an airline’s total operational cost structure in India, rendering commercial balance sheets exceptionally sensitive to upstream price increases. Airline representatives clarified that the adjusted surcharges apply uniformly to all newly confirmed flight bookings, while reservations issued prior to the announcement date remain unaffected.

Travel booking platforms anticipate that other competing domestic carriers may introduce comparable fare adjustments in coming days to safeguard operating profit margins ahead of peak festive holiday travel periods. Consumer consumer advocacy groups expressed concern that higher ticket prices could dampen discretionary leisure travel on high-frequency metro sectors.
