Veteran Indian cricket all-rounder Harmanpreet Kaur officially announced her decision to relinquish captaincy of the Indian national women’s cricket team across Test, One-Day International, and T20 International formats. The historic announcement marks the culmination of a magnificent leadership era during which Kaur guided India to its historic 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup triumph and back-to-back gold medals at consecutive Asian Games championships.
In a heartfelt personal communication addressed to the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the celebrated batter expressed profound gratitude to teammates, coaches, and supporters, stating that stepping down allows the squad to build long-term leadership stability ahead of the upcoming multi-format international cycle. Kaur confirmed that she will continue representing the country as a senior middle-order batting anchor and mentor.
Cricket administrators and former international legends praised Kaur’s transformative leadership, highlighting her fearless attacking mentality that turned the Indian women’s side into a dominant global force. BCCI selectors are scheduled to convene in Mumbai next week to deliberate on naming the new national skipper.
