Kochi-headquartered deep-tech startup EyeROV achieved an unprecedented technological breakthrough by successfully handing over India’s first fully indigenous military-grade remotely operated underwater vehicle to the Indian Navy. The micro-submersible system, engineered and fabricated at the startup’s Maker Village facility, is equipped with high-resolution acoustic imaging sensors, multi-axis robotic manipulators, and autonomous tether management units.
Naval commanders confirmed that the advanced platform will be deployed across frontline naval dockyards and offshore defense bases for structural hull inspections, underwater mine countermeasures, and harbor surveillance missions. Designed to operate effectively at depths exceeding two hundred meters, the submersible eliminates the necessity of deploying human naval clearance divers into high-risk underwater ordnance environments.
Defense production officials praised the milestone as a shining triumph of the Innovations for Defence Excellence framework under the central government’s indigenization mandate. The company stated that it is developing expanded underwater autonomy algorithms and modular sensor payloads to fulfill future subsea exploration and defense surveillance requirements.
