Israeli Strike in Southern Lebanon Kills Six Including Two Paramedics and Syrian Child

Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon killed six people on Friday, including two paramedics and a Syrian child, Lebanon’s health ministry said. The ministry condemned the attacks as violations of international law. The strikes hit the towns of Hanaway and Deir Qanoun al-Nahr in Tyre province within a 24-hour period.

According to the ministry, an overnight strike in Hanaway killed four paramedics from the Islamic Health Association. A morning strike in Deir Qanoun al-Nahr killed six people total, including two medics from the Al-Rissala Scouts Association and a Syrian child. Six others were wounded, including three paramedics.

The Israeli military said it launched airstrikes on Hezbollah infrastructure in the Tyre area following evacuation warnings. The strikes continued despite a fragile U.S.-brokered ceasefire reached last month in the Israel-Hezbollah conflict. Lebanon’s National News Agency reported the attacks.

Humanitarian groups have documented repeated strikes on medical workers. Doctors Without Borders said attacks on first responders in southern Lebanon reflect an alarming pattern. The World Health Organization has reported that several hospitals in the south have been damaged or put out of service. U.N. humanitarian coordinator Imran Riza called the continued toll unacceptable.

Deir Qanoun al-Nahr had been struck earlier in the week in an attack that killed 14 people, the deadliest single strike since the ceasefire was announced. The Lebanese health ministry said at least 110 health-care workers have been killed in Israeli attacks since the conflict reignited on March 2.
