Live: U.S. military kills three in strike against drug smuggling boat

Data and statements released on June 1, 2026 showed that Washington reported another Pacific strike on an alleged drug boat. U.S. Southern Command said a strike in the eastern Pacific Ocean on Friday killed three men on an alleged drug-smuggling boat.

Subsequent updates explained that the announcement on Saturday followed a series of U.S. military operations against vessels Washington links to narcotics trafficking.

Separately, brown University researchers estimated cumulative costs of related operations at about $4.7 billion in one analysis cited by news outlets.

In addition, independent narcotics experts quoted in reports questioned whether the maritime strikes have reduced cocaine flows to the United States.

The same reports noted that southern Command framed the operation as self-defence against alleged narcotics trafficking at sea.

Authorities also said the strike was announced Saturday following a Friday engagement in the eastern Pacific.

Officials said further steps would be announced as reviews continue.
