Report: U.S. forces coordinate commercial vessel passage through Strait of Hormuz

Regulators, courts and agencies on June 1, 2026 confirmed that the U.S. military coordinated Hormuz transits for dozens of merchant ships. U.S. officials said American forces helped coordinate passage of about 70 commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz in recent weeks.

Parallel announcements clarified that most ships reportedly switched off transponders to avoid detection in the narrow waterway.

Subsequent updates explained that u.S. Central Command guided traffic into and out of the Persian Gulf amid the three-month-old regional conflict.

Separately, iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told Japan on June 1 that Tehran would try to facilitate passage of Japanese-flagged ships.

In addition, the New York Times reported U.S. coordination efforts citing unnamed defense officials.

The same reports noted that commercial shippers have faced insurance and routing challenges since the February escalation.

Observers will watch whether follow-up orders alter the current framework.
