D.K. Shivakumar sworn in as new CM of Karnataka

D.K. Shivakumar was sworn in as Chief Minister of Karnataka on June 3, 2026, at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru, completing a transition from outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered the oath to Shivakumar, an eight-time legislator and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president. G. Parameshwara was sworn in as deputy chief minister alongside 13 cabinet ministers.

Shivakumar took the oath holding a copy of the Constitution and in the name of the late seer Veera Gangadhara Ajjayya, to whom he offered floral tributes before the ceremony. Congress leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi attended.

Shivakumar was elected legislature party leader on May 30 after Siddaramaiah’s resignation. He is expected to govern for less than two years before the next assembly elections.
