India Ganga Expressway Inaugurated by PM Modi as Country Largest Expressway

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Ganga Expressway, described as India’s largest expressway, connecting multiple districts in Uttar Pradesh and improving regional connectivity.

The highway stretches across the densely populated Gangetic plain, linking population centres and industrial corridors with a high-speed road designed to cut travel times. Large expressways have become signature infrastructure projects in Uttar Pradesh under successive governments competing on connectivity credentials.

Modi’s inauguration ceremony highlighted the road’s capacity to boost logistics, tourism, and access to markets for farmers and manufacturers. The project involved substantial land acquisition and civil works spanning hundreds of kilometres.

As the country’s longest or largest expressway by stated metrics, the Ganga corridor joins a network of Yamuna, Purvanchal, and Bundelkhand expressways transforming Uttar Pradesh’s transport map. Faster links between west and east within the state aim to reduce congestion on older national highways carrying mixed traffic.

The Ganga Expressway traverses Uttar Pradesh districts along the river basin, linking western and eastern parts of the state by controlled-access road. Modi framed the inauguration as part of a broader expressway network reducing travel time for goods and passengers across the Gangetic plain.

Controlled-access design on the Ganga Expressway separates high-speed traffic from local roads crossing Uttar Pradesh’s most populous state. The project required extensive land acquisition and earthworks spanning hundreds of kilometres along the river basin.
