Sensex closes 562 points higher at 76,827

India’s BSE Sensex closed 562 points higher on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, finishing at 76,826, while the NSE Nifty 50 ended at 23,989, as easing geopolitical concerns, positive global cues and selective institutional buying drove broad advances across major sectors.

HCL Technologies was the standout among blue-chip constituents, climbing 3.68 percent following media reports linking the company to a stake acquisition in domestic AI startup Sarvam. NTPC and Bajaj Finserv were also notable advancers, helping the Sensex register a 0.74 percent gain for the session.

The Nifty 50 closed 0.57 percent higher, with gains spread across information technology, energy and financial services. Crude oil trading near $83 per barrel provided a supportive backdrop for India as an oil-importing economy, amplified by the diplomatic signals from the US-Iran talks.

Foreign institutional investors had turned net buyers of Indian equities in the previous session after thirteen consecutive days of net selling, a directional shift that market participants said helped underpin broader confidence and contributed to Tuesday’s advance across large-cap and mid-cap segments.
