Anthropic has accused Alibaba of carrying out what it describes as the largest AI distillation attack in history, involving 28.8 million Claude interactions.
In a letter to the Senate, Anthropic alleges that 25,000 fraudulent Alibaba accounts generated the exchanges between April and June 2026.
The company claims the effort was designed to train Alibaba’s Qwen AI model by extracting capabilities from Claude.
The accusation escalates concerns over model extraction and competitive practices in the global AI industry.
