Bike taxis are not public transport vehicles, Karnataka tells Supreme Court

The Government of Karnataka submitted before the Supreme Court of India that commercial bike taxis cannot be classified as public transport vehicles under existing state motor vehicle regulations.

State legal counsel argued that a prior decision by the High Court of Karnataka overlooked critical safety benchmarks, vehicle inspection requirements, and passenger insurance standards specific to commercial two-wheeler transit.

The apex court recorded the state’s legal submissions as part of ongoing proceedings evaluating aggregator platform operations and urban transport framework rules.
