India’s future unicorn pool doubles to 110 startups in five years, Hurun India report finds

India’s prospective unicorn ecosystem has expanded dramatically over the past half-decade, with the number of high-growth startups poised to attain billion-dollar valuations doubling to one hundred and ten enterprises, according to the Hurun India Future Unicorn Index released on Tuesday.

The comprehensive analytical report evaluated early-stage and venture-backed ventures across the subcontinent, identifying sixty Gazelles—startups likely to achieve unicorn status within three years—and fifty Cheetahs—enterprises projected to cross the milestone within five years. The cumulative valuation of these future unicorns reached approximately thirty-two billion dollars, driven primarily by innovations in financial technology, deep artificial intelligence, enterprise software, and green mobility.

Geographically, Bengaluru maintained its commanding domestic preeminence as the primary innovation cradle, hosting forty-five percent of the ranked ventures, followed closely by the National Capital Region and Mumbai. Notably, emerging tier-two startup hubs such as Pune, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad recorded double-digit percentage expansions in venture capital investments.

Hurun India chief researcher Anas Rahman Junaid commented that despite disciplined venture funding environments globally, Indian founders have shown exceptional capital resilience and product-market adaptability. The study projected that the domestic startup ecosystem could sustain over two hundred active unicorns before the conclusion of the current decade.
