The State Bank of India launched a dedicated Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement Facilitation Desk at its corporate center in Mumbai on Friday, seeking to accelerate commercial financing and regulatory clearances for businesses trading between India and the United Kingdom.
The specialized institutional desk will offer end-to-end foreign currency settlement services, export credit underwriting, supply chain financing, and customs tariff advisory for mid-sized and large enterprises operating in both jurisdictions. Bank leadership stated that the initiative is designed to maximize commercial opportunities emerging from the finalized bilateral free trade agreement across textiles, engineering goods, automotive components, and digital services.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, senior trade commissioners from the British High Commission commended the bank proactive financial infrastructure, emphasizing that streamlined cross-border trade settlements will significantly lower transaction friction for small and medium enterprises. SBI plans to replicate similar bilateral desks across major industrial export clusters in Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru.
