Chief Economic Advisor urges corporate India to step up investment and domestic wage growth

Chief Economic Advisor V. Anantha Nageswaran delivered a candid keynote address at a major industrial leadership summit on Thursday, urging corporate India to convert healthy corporate balance sheets into robust private capital expenditures and meaningful real wage growth for workers. Nageswaran cautioned business titans that excessive reliance on financial engineering and legacy low-wage cost models is unsustainable in an era of rapid technological disruption.

The Chief Economic Advisor stressed that expanding domestic purchasing power through equitable wage compensation represents the most effective structural engine to sustain robust aggregate domestic consumption over the coming decade. He called upon corporate conglomerates to dramatically expand apprenticeships, upgrade worker skills in automation and machine learning, and establish long-term research partnerships with Indian technical universities.

Industry delegates acknowledged the CEA’s perspective, noting that geopolitical realignments and digital transitions require unprecedented investments in domestic supply-chain capability and employee reskilling. Nageswaran emphasized that public capital spending by the central government has paved the way for private industry to step forward and lead the next major phase of productive capital formation.
