Tropical Storm Polo forms off southwestern Mexico, forecast to intensify into major hurricane

Meteorological reconnaissance aircraft and coastal radar systems detected the rapid organization of Tropical Storm Polo off the southwestern coast of Mexico on Sunday morning. The National Hurricane Center in Miami reported that the system was churning roughly three hundred kilometers south-southwest of Manzanillo, packing sustained surface winds of forty miles per hour with higher rotational gusts.

Computer forecast models project that exceptionally warm sea surface temperatures and favorable upper-level atmospheric ventilation will propel rapid cyclonic intensification over the next forty-eight hours. Forecasters warned that the system is likely to attain Category 3 major hurricane status before curving toward coastal resort zones across Jalisco, Colima, and southern Sinaloa.

Civil protection authorities across Mexico initiated emergency flood management protocols, preparing temporary storm shelters and ordering small artisanal fishing vessels to return to harbor. Coastal communities were advised to brace for destructive storm surges, dangerous rip currents, and up to ten inches of torrential rainfall that could trigger lethal mudslides in mountainous coastal terrain.
