Apple officially launches Apple Pay in India with Axis Bank Visa and Mastercard credit cards

Apple has formally introduced its Apple Pay mobile payment service across India, launching initial transaction capabilities in partnership with private sector lender Axis Bank on both Visa and Mastercard credit card networks. The rollout enables eligible cardholders to tokenize their credit credentials within the native Apple Wallet app, facilitating secure near-field communication contactless transactions at retail point-of-sale terminals nationwide.

The payments infrastructure incorporates dynamic tokenization technology, ensuring that actual card numbers are never stored on host devices or merchant processing servers during financial clearances. Users authenticate transactions locally through biometric facial or fingerprint scanning on compatible iPhones and Apple Watches, complying with regulatory security directives established by the Reserve Bank of India.

Financial technology analysts noted that Apple Pay’s entry into the competitive Indian digital payment ecosystem positions the tech giant against established unified payments interfaces. Industry executives anticipate that additional commercial banks and payment networks will integrate their card portfolios into the platform over upcoming fiscal quarters as consumer adoption of contactless mobile payments continues expanding.
