UP CM Yogi Adityanath officially renames Bhadohi district as Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued an executive gazette notification on October 5, 2026, formally renaming Bhadohi district as Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi, honoring the revered fourteenth-century Bhakti movement saint and philosopher. The formal nomenclature change fulfills longstanding cultural demands from regional artisans, spiritual organizations, and civil society delegations across eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The district, internationally renowned for its hand-knotted carpet weaving industry and exquisite textile craftsmanship, had previously borne the saint’s name before subsequent administrative adjustments reverted it to Bhadohi. State officials confirmed that all official government stationery, judicial administrative records, district portal directories, and highway navigation signage are being updated systematically to incorporate the amended designation.

Addressing a gathering in Varanasi, the Chief Minister emphasized that honoring Sant Ravidas reflects the administration’s deep commitment to celebrating India’s egalitarian spiritual heritage and supporting artisan welfare. Local weaver cooperatives welcomed the formalization, expressing hope that associated municipal funding packages will enhance export infrastructure and artisanal skill development centers throughout the region.
