A multi-jurisdictional manhunt was underway across Tamil Nadu as six specialized police squads expanded their search for a 25-year-old prisoner who escaped lawful custody outside Coimbatore Central Prison. The undertrial prisoner, identified as Raghavan, was being escorted back to the correctional facility following a scheduled judicial hearing when he broke free from police escort personnel near the prison entrance gate. Taking advantage of dense evening vehicular traffic and fading twilight, the prisoner scaled a low perimeter boundary wall and vanished into adjacent residential alleys.
Senior police officials immediately sounded an alert across the Western Zone, dispatching tactical search teams to monitor bus terminals, railway stations, and highway toll plazas leading toward neighboring districts and the Kerala border. Escort personnel involved in the transfer were subjected to an official departmental inquiry to determine whether procedural lapses or negligence contributed to the prisoner’s escape. Law enforcement authorities released recent photographic descriptions of the fugitive to the public, urging citizens to report any suspicious sightings while warning against aiding an absconding offender.
