Three Detained in Jammu for Instigating Panic at Bus Stand

JAMMU (March 3, 2026) — Jammu Police detained three individuals on Tuesday afternoon at the General Bus Stand for allegedly attempting to instigate the public and creating an atmosphere of panic. The arrests come amid heightened security across the Union Territory following recent regional geopolitical tensions.

Incident and Detentions

A police team led by Inspector Inderpal Singh, Station House Officer (SHO) of the Bus Stand Police Station, intervened after receiving reports of individuals engaging in “prejudicial activities” in a high-traffic public zone.

  • Individuals Detained:
    • Afnan: A resident of Srinagar.
    • Saniya Shabier: Wife of Afnan, also from Srinagar.
    • Sanjay Kumar: A resident of Majalta, Udhampur district.
  • The Allegation: Police stated the trio was actively attempting to provoke bystanders and travelers, leading to an immediate apprehension of a breach of peace and tranquility in the crowded terminal.

Legal Action under BNSS

The three individuals have been booked under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), the procedural law that replaced the CrPC. Specifically, they were detained under preventative sections designed to maintain public order (equivalent to the former Section 107/151 of the CrPC).

Heightened Vigilance in Jammu

The Jammu district administration has increased surveillance at transit hubs—including the railway station and airport—to prevent the spread of rumors or coordinated disruptions.

  • Preventative Measures: Authorities have urged citizens to verify information before sharing it on social media to avoid charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for spreading misinformation.
  • Context: This incident follows a series of minor scuffles reported at transit points due to travel delays caused by the ongoing Middle East conflict and its impact on regional flight paths.
