Gujarat Titans Thrash CSK by 89 Runs to Seal Top-Two Finish in IPL 2026

Gujarat Titans sealed a top-two finish in the Indian Premier League 2026 with an 89-run victory over Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, ending CSK’s playoff hopes in the process.

After winning the toss, Gujarat posted 229 for four in 20 overs. Sai Sudharsan scored 84, Shubman Gill made 64 and Jos Buttler remained unbeaten on 57. Chennai were bowled out for 140 in 13.4 overs, with Shivam Dube top-scoring with 47 off 17 balls.

Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada and Rashid Khan took three wickets each as the Titans’ pace attack dismantled the CSK batting lineup. The margin of defeat was the heaviest in CSK’s IPL history and also represented Gujarat’s largest win in the tournament.

With 18 points from 14 matches, Gujarat confirmed a berth in Qualifier 1, giving the franchise an extra chance to reach the final. The Titans will face either Royal Challengers Bengaluru or Sunrisers Hyderabad in Dharamsala on May 26. Chennai finished the league stage with 12 points and were eliminated from contention.

Match 66 concluded the league stage for both franchises. Gill said the performance gave Gujarat momentum heading into the playoffs, while CSK’s elimination marked the third team knocked out alongside Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants. Siraj said his priority in the powerplay was building pressure on batters.
