Congress Jai Hind Sabha Campaign Runs May 20 to 30 Demanding Clarity on US Ceasefire Claims

India’s opposition Congress party launched a nationwide Jai Hind Sabha campaign from May 20 to May 30, holding public meetings demanding the government clarify circumstances surrounding the India-Pakistan ceasefire announced in May.

Congress leaders pressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his silence on repeated U.S. claims that Washington brokered the truce after days of military exchanges between the nuclear-armed neighbours. New Delhi has maintained that cessation of hostilities resulted from direct bilateral communication between India and Pakistan, rejecting third-party mediation narratives.

President Donald Trump announced the ceasefire on May 10, and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said talks on broader issues would follow at a neutral site. India’s foreign ministry partially disputed that framing, stating no decision had been made on additional negotiations beyond military de-escalation.

The campaign reflects ongoing political friction over national security messaging as Modi prepares to host Rubio for a four-day visit beginning May 23 focused on trade, energy and Quad cooperation with foreign ministers from Japan and Australia.

Congress leaders referenced U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance’s involvement alongside Rubio in the May ceasefire mediation, which India has downplayed in official statements. Public meetings under the Jai Hind Sabha banner were scheduled in state capitals through May 30 to maintain pressure on the government.
