India and Cyprus signed a memorandum of understanding on innovation and technology cooperation, linking Cyprus’s Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy with India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
The agreement provides a framework for exchanges between startups, incubators, accelerators and government innovation agencies in both countries. Leaders said it would support joint research in emerging technologies including ethical and responsible artificial intelligence, as referenced in the 56-point joint declaration signed during Christodoulides’ state visit.
The MoU was among six agreements exchanged during the visit, alongside pacts on counterterrorism through a new Joint Working Group, a defence cooperation roadmap for 2026-2031, higher education, cultural collaboration and search-and-rescue operations between maritime coordination centers.
Officials said the technology partnership complements existing trade ties and aims to connect Indian digital enterprises with European regulatory and market expertise through Cyprus, an EU member state positioned as a gateway between Asia and continental Europe.
The innovation MoU aims to facilitate startup exchanges and joint research projects in sustainable technologies. Both governments said the agreement would connect Indian MeitY programs with Cyprus’s digital policy initiatives under the newly elevated strategic partnership framework announced in New Delhi.
Officials said the MoU would enable incubator partnerships and accelerator exchanges between Indian and Cypriot technology firms.
