THANE (Saturday, March 7, 2026) — A midnight shooting at the residence of social media influencer and businessman Nadeem Moinuddin Khan (45), popularly known as Baba Khan, led to a dramatic high-speed police chase through the streets of Thane early Saturday morning. While the initial attack caused no injuries, two bystanders were wounded during the subsequent shootout between the police and the fleeing suspect.
The Initial Attack in Mumbra
The incident began around 4:00 AM at a housing society in the Kausa area of Mumbra, where Khan resides.
- The Firing: Two unidentified miscreants arrived at the gate and opened fire. Two bullets struck and slightly damaged Khan’s car, while a third round was fired into the air before the duo fled.
- Claims of Prior Threats: In a video shared online shortly after the incident, Khan alleged that he had previously submitted a memorandum to the police regarding death threats, but no protective action had been taken.
The Police Chase and Second Shootout
Acting on a tip-off following the spot panchnama, Thane City Police tracked one of the suspects to the Shil Daighar area.
- Resistance: When the police team closed in, the suspect, identified as Shahabad alias Shambhu Munna Shamshad Qureshi (28), opened fire on the officers to evade arrest.
- Bystanders Injured: Qureshi reportedly fired five rounds during the chase. While the police remained unhurt, two innocent bystanders present at the scene sustained bullet injuries.
- The Arrest: Qureshi was eventually overpowered and taken into custody. Police recovered a firearm and four magazines from his possession.
Investigation and Legal Status
Thane Police have registered an FIR under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.
