China Drafts 295 Billion Dollar Plan to Build Nationwide AI Data Center Grid

China is drafting a plan worth approximately 295 billion dollars to build a nationwide artificial intelligence data center grid, according to reports from Beijing. The initiative would deploy state-backed computing infrastructure across the country over five years.

The proposed investment totals roughly 2 trillion yuan and reflects China’s ambition to dominate AI development through massive public spending. Data centers would be linked into a coordinated network to support government and commercial AI applications.

Beijing has prioritized AI as a strategic technology rivaling Western competitors. The grid plan would expand computing capacity in provinces beyond current coastal technology hubs.

Officials have not yet published final details of the spending package. The scale of the proposed investment underscores the centrality of AI infrastructure to China’s industrial policy.
