United Naga Council Calls 24-Hour Shutdown Across Manipur Over Recovery of Six Bodies

The United Naga Council announced a 24-hour total shutdown across Naga-inhabited areas of Manipur following the recovery of six bodies of allegedly abducted Naga civilians. The UNC said the shutdown would protest the killings and demand justice.

The bodies were found after the individuals had been reported missing since May. Naga community organizations accused armed groups of targeting civilians amid ongoing ethnic tensions in the northeastern state.

The shutdown affected businesses, transport and government offices in Naga-dominated districts. Security forces were deployed to prevent violence during the protest period.

Manipur has experienced prolonged unrest since ethnic clashes erupted in 2023. The UNC called on central and state authorities to identify and punish those responsible for the abductions and deaths.
