India’s Food Safety and Standards Authority issued notices to KFC, Flipkart India and Nestle after social media complaints about hygiene and insect contamination, the regulator said.
FSSAI said it took cognizance of viral posts alleging unsanitary conditions at restaurants and warehouses. Companies were asked to respond with corrective action plans.
Consumer protection advocates said the notices reflected growing scrutiny of food handling at major brands serving India’s large urban customer base.
The companies had not publicly detailed their responses. FSSAI said inspections would follow if initial explanations were inadequate.
