India Condemns US Strike on Boats as 21 Indian Crew Rescued from Attacked Vessel Near Oman

India publicly condemned U.S. military strikes on vessels near Oman and confirmed that 21 Indian crew members were rescued from an attacked commercial ship, the external affairs ministry said.

Three other Indian seafarers were confirmed dead after initially being listed as missing from a separate attack. Officials summoned U.S. Charge d’Affaires Jason Meeks for a second formal protest.

India imports roughly 90 percent of its crude oil, leaving the economy highly exposed to shipping disruptions in the Persian Gulf and adjacent waters.

Washington had not issued a detailed public response to India’s condemnation.
