ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Opens in England with England vs Sri Lanka at Edgbaston

The 10th edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup began in England on Thursday with the host nation facing Sri Lanka in the tournament opener at Edgbaston.

England, playing on home soil, opened a competition featuring the world’s leading women’s cricket nations across multiple venues in England and Wales.

Sri Lanka traveled to Birmingham as a familiar T20 opponent capable of upsetting higher-ranked sides when conditions suit their spin-heavy attack.

Organizers positioned the opening fixture at Edgbaston to showcase the tournament in one of England’s largest cricket markets.

The tournament features 48 teams competing across 16 host cities in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
