SpaceX Plans to Build Space-Based Data Centers with Massive Compute Infrastructure

SpaceX disclosed that its xAI unit is developing orbital data centers as part of a long-term strategy to deliver massive compute capacity for artificial intelligence.

Executives described space-based infrastructure as a potential solution to land, energy and cooling constraints facing terrestrial data center expansion.

Analysts said technical and regulatory hurdles remain substantial before orbital compute could operate at commercial scale.

The announcement followed SpaceX’s record-breaking IPO, which raised 75 billion dollars and valued the combined enterprise above two trillion dollars.
