BMC’s road concretisation work paused as monsoon nears, 80% of target achieved so far

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation paused major road concretisation projects as monsoon rains neared, having completed roughly 80 percent of its annual target.

Civic rules prohibit large-scale digging during heavy shower months to reduce flooding risks in low-lying wards that suffered chronic waterlogging last year.

Contractors must secure and barricade unfinished stretches, while ward officers monitor drain desilting as a priority over fresh pavement laying.

Transport activists welcomed the halt but demanded completion timelines for remaining corridors that commuters rely on for western suburb connectivity.

BMC engineers said work would resume after the meteorological department declares a safe window, typically in late September for Mumbai.
