British court upholds Palestine Action terrorism ban

A UK appeals court upheld the government’s designation of Palestine Action as a proscribed terrorist organization on June 16, 2026, rejecting a legal challenge brought by the group’s supporters.

Palestine Action had mounted a campaign of direct action against companies with links to Israeli defense industries, including property damage at manufacturing sites. The government moved to ban the group under terrorism legislation, a step critics called disproportionate for a protest organization.

The court found the proscription met the statutory threshold and that the group’s methods, including coordinated property destruction and disruption of business operations, crossed the legal line beyond protected protest activity.

Civil liberties lawyers representing the challengers said they were reviewing options for further appeal. Free speech and protest rights organizations argued the ruling set a concerning precedent that could be applied to other activist movements engaging in civil disobedience.
