India and Cyprus agreed to establish a joint task force to deepen cooperation in infrastructure, shipping and digital technology during President Nikos Christodoulides’s state visit to New Delhi. The mechanism will coordinate projects between government agencies and private sectors in both countries.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Christodoulides announced the task force as part of elevating ties to a strategic partnership. Cyprus’s location in the eastern Mediterranean makes it a potential hub for Indian shipping routes to Europe. Both leaders discussed port development, logistics and maritime security cooperation.
MoUs signed during the visit also covered innovation, fintech, migration and counter-terrorism. A defense cooperation roadmap for 2026-2031 builds on a bilateral defense program signed in Nicosia earlier this year. Christodoulides participated in a business forum in Mumbai before arriving in the capital.
External Affairs Ministry officials said the task force will meet regularly to identify concrete projects. Cypriot investment in India has grown significantly, and both sides aim to double it again within five years. Cyprus’s EU presidency adds weight to discussions on India-Europe trade and technology partnerships.
