India Completes First GAGAN Satellite-Based Navigation Guided Commercial Jet Landing at Udaipur Airport

India has carried out its first commercial jet landing guided by the GAGAN satellite-based navigation system, with the milestone achieved at Udaipur Airport.

GAGAN, the GPS Aided GEO Augmented Navigation system, was jointly developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation and the Airports Authority of India. It augments satellite navigation signals to improve their accuracy and reliability for aviation use.

The successful landing marks a significant step in enhancing aviation safety and navigation precision across the country, potentially enabling more accurate approaches at airports that lack extensive ground-based navigation aids.

The achievement highlights the growing application of India’s home-grown space and navigation infrastructure in civil aviation, reducing dependence on external systems and supporting wider use of satellite-based procedures at domestic airports.
