Karnataka government announces initiative to teach Artificial Intelligence in schools from Class 6

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar announced an ambitious state educational policy reform that integrates mandatory foundational Artificial Intelligence and computational thinking modules into the state curriculum starting from Class 6 across all government and aided schools. The pedagogical initiative, set to roll out in the upcoming academic calendar, aims to democratize advanced technological literacy among rural and urban students early in their schooling.

The specialized curriculum, designed in close consultation with technology industry experts and educational scientists from Bengaluru’s leading academic institutions, covers algorithm foundations, data ethics, machine learning basics, and visual programming applications. State administrative authorities announced dedicated capital budget disbursements to equip school computer laboratories with modern digital computing terminals, high-speed fiber internet, and interactive learning displays.

The education department has scheduled comprehensive state-wide teacher training workshops to certify over twenty-five thousand government school instructors in modern AI pedagogical tools. Educational researchers praised the forward-thinking initiative, noting that early exposure to critical computational skills prepares youth to navigate future digital career ecosystems.
