Long Beach police responded Saturday to a shooting in the 1300 block of West 33rd Street tied to an attempted vehicle break-in, according to the department blotter.

The suspect fired at a vehicle owner who confronted the break-in attempt, then fled the scene before officers arrived, police said.

The owner was not struck, though investigators documented bullet strikes on the vehicle and nearby property.

Detectives are working to identify the shooter through witness descriptions and surveillance footage from adjacent homes.

The incident adds to a string of property crimes in the area that community groups have flagged at recent neighborhood council meetings.
