PIB debunks claim that UPSC 2026 prelims paper was leaked

India’s Press Information Bureau issued a fact-check on June 16, 2026, labeling as false a wave of viral social media posts alleging that the question paper for the Union Public Service Commission’s Civil Services Preliminary Examination had been leaked before candidates sat the test.

The PIB stated that no credible evidence supported the leakage allegations and that the posts appeared designed to create confusion and anxiety among candidates who had recently appeared for the examination or were preparing for upcoming stages. The agency urged the public to rely exclusively on official UPSC communications regarding examination integrity.

The UPSC has faced scrutiny in previous cycles over irregularity allegations, making the public and competitive exam community particularly sensitive to leakage claims. Officials emphasized that security protocols for the Civil Services examination involve multiple independently managed layers.

The PIB advised fact-checking bodies and student associations to avoid amplifying unverified posts that could cause significant distress among hundreds of thousands of candidates for whom the examination represents a major career opportunity. UPSC official channels reposted the PIB clarification without issuing a separate independent statement.
