PM Modi dedicates India’s first greenfield refinery-petrochemical complex in Rajasthan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated India’s first greenfield refinery-cum-petrochemical complex at Balotra in Rajasthan’s Pachpadra area.

Developed jointly with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, the nine-million-metric-tonnes-per-annum facility involved investment exceeding Rs 79,450 crore. Modi also inaugurated additional development projects worth around Rs 1.06 lakh crore in the region.

Greenfield status means the plant was built on undeveloped land rather than expanding an existing site. The complex integrates refining and petrochemical production, reducing reliance on imported intermediates.

Modi said work accelerated after a BJP-led state government replaced Congress administration, which he accused of delaying cooperation on the project signed in 2017.
