Sun news: Sun blasts still expected, G1 storm possible on June 14

Space weather forecasters said a coronal mass ejection launched from the sun could reach Earth on Saturday, potentially triggering G1 geomagnetic storm conditions.

Analysts at NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center noted that G1 storms are minor on the five-step scale yet can still produce auroras at high latitudes.

Utility operators monitor such events because sudden geomagnetic fluctuations can induce currents in long power lines.

Satellite controllers may reposition assets temporarily to reduce exposure to heightened radiation in the outer atmosphere.

Amateur aurora photographers in Canada and the northern United States were advised to watch clearing skies after local midnight.

Forecasters stressed that timing and intensity estimates can shift as the plasma cloud crosses monitoring spacecraft en route to Earth.
