Long-distance runner Gulveer Singh won silver in the men’s 10,000 meters at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Tuesday, clocking 27 minutes 49.78 seconds in rain-soaked conditions at Scotstoun Stadium.
Australia’s Ky Robinson took gold in 27:48.93, finishing less than a second ahead of the Indian national record holder. David Mullarkey of the Isle of Man earned bronze as traditional East African distance powers missed the podium.
Gulveer became the first Indian man to medal in the event at the Games. India’s previous 10,000m podium finish came when Kavita Raut won bronze in the women’s race at Delhi 2010.
He closed strongly over the final kilometre, covering the last lap in about 2 minutes 29 seconds to move into second place.
Union sports officials congratulated the TOPS-supported athlete as India expanded its athletics haul at Glasgow 2026.
