Srihari Nataraj Bows Out in 100m Backstroke Semis

Swimmer Srihari Nataraj failed to qualify for the men’s 100-meter backstroke final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, finishing 12th overall in the semifinal round.

Nataraj, among India’s leading backstroke specialists, posted a time outside the top eight needed to advance to the championship heat at the pool complex.

His exit ended India’s immediate medal prospects in the event, though relay squads remained in contention in other disciplines.

Coaches said the performance still matched seasonal training goals in parts of the race but lacked the closing speed required against Commonwealth-record pace setters.

Nataraj has been a regular finalist at Asian meets and was expected to challenge for lane assignments in the final eight before Tuesday’s result.
