Upon his reception with military honors at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Singh commenced bilateral consultations with Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and senior defense ministry officials. The high-level discussions centered on bolstering Indian Ocean domain awareness, joint surveillance operations against maritime contraband networks, and establishing real-time information-sharing protocols across regional naval command centers.
The defense minister is scheduled to formally hand over specialized coastal radar tracking subsystems and offshore patrol spare consignments supplied under India’s bilateral defense line of credit. Singh also held discussions on expanding training seats for Sri Lankan military officers in premier Indian defense academies and facilitating joint exercises between the respective armed forces.
Indian defense officials stated that the diplomatic outreach reaffirms New Delhi’s Neighbourhood First doctrine and the SAGAR framework for regional maritime security. Both governments agreed to establish an institutionalized bilateral defense dialogue to review emerging security developments across the vital sea lanes of communication.
