Bandhan Bank enters strategic partnership with Mastercard to launch customized credit card portfolio

Private sector lender Bandhan Bank announced a multi-year commercial partnership with global payment technology giant Mastercard on Friday, formally rolling out an extensive suite of co-branded credit cards tailored for semi-urban, rural, and metropolitan banking consumers.

The newly launched card portfolio features multiple tiered variants designed to address the distinct spending behaviors of first-time credit users as well as affluent corporate customers, incorporating contactless biometric authentication, customized reward points on daily household essentials, and zero-liability fraud protections. Bank executives noted that the strategic alliance leverages Mastercard global payment infrastructure while utilizing Bandhan Bank extensive branch footprint across eastern and northeastern India.

Financial analysts highlighted that the venture marks a decisive diversification step for Bandhan Bank as it seeks to expand non-interest fee revenues and build high-margin unsecured consumer credit portfolios. Both partners pledged to conduct digital financial literacy workshops across Tier-2 and Tier-3 towns to promote responsible credit adoption among newly banked populations.
