Bengaluru garbage disposal under scanner as Lokayukta seeks report

Karnataka’s Lokayukta anti-corruption ombudsman sought an immediate report from Bengaluru civic authorities on garbage disposal failures that have left neighborhoods buried in uncollected waste, an order issued Friday shows.

The request follows weeks of citizen complaints about missed pickup routes, landfill fires and contractor billing disputes within the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike.

Lokayukta investigators can recommend suspensions or prosecutions if they find evidence of kickbacks tied to collection contracts.

Public-health experts warned that rotting piles attract rodents and worsen monsoon disease risks in dense wards.

Mayoral aides said new compactors are arriving but union disputes have slowed deployment in several zones.

The report deadline pressures officials to document route maps, tonnage logs and payments to private haulers for forensic comparison.
