At least 62 people killed in attack on a community in northeastern Nigeria

Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency confirmed that armed bandits launched an assault on the Binnari community in the northeastern state of Taraba, killing at least 62 residents and injuring 52 others. Emergency response teams arriving at the scene documented extensive property destruction, with hundreds of homes, granaries, and community structures burned to the ground. The violent raid triggered the mass displacement of thousands of villagers, who sought temporary refuge in surrounding forests and neighboring local government areas.

Security forces and relief personnel mobilized to establish emergency humanitarian relief distribution points and deliver medical supplies to local health facilities treating the wounded. Community leaders reported that the assailants arrived on motorcycles, firing indiscriminately upon community members before looting livestock and food reserves. State authorities announced that joint military and police detachments were dispatched to restore security in the region and track down the perpetrators, as government officials pledged assistance to rebuild devastated settlements.
