Brazil Finance Minister to meet US authorities on terrorist groups designation

Agencies and courts on June 2, 2026 noted that stakeholders were tracking a development that drew same-day news attention. Brazilian Finance Minister Dario Durigan said June 1–2, 2026 he would meet U.S. authorities about U.S. designation of PCC and Comando Vermelho as terrorist organizations effective June 5, 2026.

Subsequent updates explained that u.S. State Department (May 28, 2026) designated CV and PCC as SDGTs and intended FTO listings. Durigan warned the move could indirectly affect Brazil’s Pix payment system and raise compliance costs for banks (Xinhua, Valor).

In addition, designation followed May 26, 2026 White House meeting involving Brazilian presidential pre-candidate Eduardo Leite.

The matter remains under active review according to published timelines.
