Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs clears ₹1,789.52 crore AI-driven Intelligent Traffic System for Delhi

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs sanctioned a capital investment of one thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine point five two crore rupees to establish an advanced, artificial intelligence-powered Intelligent Traffic Management System across the National Capital Territory of Delhi. The multi-year municipal modernization initiative aims to overhaul metropolitan urban mobility by replacing legacy time-slotted traffic lights with dynamic, automated adaptive signaling systems.

The comprehensive project encompasses installing high-resolution vehicle detection sensors, automated incident detection video analytics, and smart variable message gantries across more than four hundred congested intersections and arterial corridors. Centralized machine-learning algorithms will analyze real-time traffic density, automatically adjusting green-signal durations to optimize vehicular throughput, ease bottleneck bottlenecks, and clear prioritized corridors for emergency ambulances and public transit.

Urban transport engineers and environmental specialists emphasized that optimizing vehicular flows through artificial intelligence will yield major dividends by cutting average commuter delays and curbing vehicular exhaust emissions that aggravate winter air pollution in Delhi. Municipal agencies confirmed that comprehensive system integration will proceed in phased rollouts under unified command centers.
